Put up a last cup of coffee Tell the world that you are closed Turn the sign round in the window Turn the lights down low Press E7 on the jukebox Hank singing out his lonesome heart Press your face up to the window Looking for that old beat up car But maybe never, never means never anymore But he told you, Diane Last time he walked out the door Would the last time you see him He'd never be coming here no more Light up another filter Blow blue smoke into rings Poke them with your finger Big fights start over little things But maybe never, never means never anymore Why'd he forget to call After promising he would It's like your momma said All men are no damn good Still your heart beats like thunder You hear gravel on the drive Headlights reflected in the toaster Tell you that's he's just arrived Mascara rivers start their journey But you really shouldn't cry Because the other thing that momma told you Was that all men always lie But maybe never, never means never anymore

about

"There are only a handful of songs that I first heard on the radio and insisted the world stop until I find out who wrote it and where I could get it. One of those times was when I was being driven to a gig I was playing in Hollywood and this song came on the radio that grabbed me by the lapels and insisted I pay attention with its authoritative voice, sexyness, and a combo of motown and punk into a perfect single. "Everyone shut up, I HAVE to find out who this is!" It was Pretenders and the song was 'Brass in Pocket'. I got the album first thing back in NYC and played it countless times. When the video came out I was fascinated with Chrissie's character of the waitress in black racoon eye-liner in the diner and the rockabilly boys charging in and the feminist statement of sexual desire. Then the guys split with some townies and she's left behind, but she gets a song out of it and I just wanted to go in there and tell her she's worth more than the whole lot! And, that's the inspiration for my latest single exclusive to Fan Club members on Bandcamp, "Maybe Never Never Means Never Anymore". And I'd like to thank Holly Troy for allowing me to feature her amazing art for the single's cover. Please dig more of her work at https://holly-troy.com" - Lach
