"Kids Fly Free came out a week after 911 and the beautiful cover of the flying boy over the city at sunset was interpreted as some to represent the cataclysm that had occurred. The album became another casualty of that horrible day. The tour supporting the album had to be cancelled and it just got buried under.
I am SO happy to see the album getting another chance to reach people now through bandcamp and the subscription service. It's my most ambitious recording project to date with a twenty person chorus made up of Antifolk stars of the day, a great band, a 16-page book lyric booklet illustrated by the amazing Daniel Johnston and even the use of a vintage Mellotron that provided me with a legend of a performer who's identity has been kept a secret until this release. Check out the notes for the last track to see what I mean ;-)
As for the boy on cover, magically illustrated by Külliki Talp, he's the kid flying free in all of us and perhaps The Boy Who Never Went Outside from the previous album Blang! Everything's connected, man!"
