"It's not unusual, once I'm in the zone, to ask for song subjects from the crowd and then create a new song on the spot. I used to do it every Monday night after the Antihoot at Sidewalk Cafe in NYC. One day I'd like to put out an album of those songs. Some have become regular tunes such as Ungrateful and George at Coney. This particular track starts with a short joke song about The Yankees (a request from Kenny Davidsen) into a song about money. When you hear me laugh before starting the lyric it's because a routine by Andy Kaufman as Latka on Taxi suddenly came to mind and I knew I had the song. I have a kid who was a baby when the pandemic started and a toddler now. When he’s older and asks what the pandemic is like I’m gonna put this album on and pour myself a drink- this covers it all. Feels surreal to imagine ever having the privilege of going to see a Jeffrey Lewis show again but it’s top of my list when this crap is over. savanns
