about

"I wrote High Street with Neil Halstead (of Slowdive and Mojave 3) over a weekend at his place in Cornwall. I was crashing on his couch and before he went out for the morning (probably surfing!) he gave me a cassette of music he was working on. I had a coffee and put words and arrangement to it. We have a demo of us doing it together and I'm still hoping we can do a nice production of it together. In the meantime, I recorded this version this week because I just couldn't keep it only in my head any longer or I might have burst." - Lach

lyrics

High Street

Walking up the brilliant high street
Shopping for that special something
What do I see?
She's looking at me

Reflected in a storefront window
She had me at the get go
With her peppermint smile
I was beguiled

Honey if I lost you in the whirlwind of time
I would only need to look into my soul
And I would find
You were the only one that I was looking for
And every time you took a walk it brought you through my door
And I'd say, "Hey, hey, hey what's happening?"
And you'd say, "Hey, hey, hey, what's new?"

Under the weeping willow
Over at the purple grotto
We had our tea
Baby, just you and me

In ways dearly subtle
We became a couple
My fingers traced
The sweet curve of your face

Honey if I lost you in the whirlwind of time
I would only need to look into my soul
And I would find
You were the only one that I was looking for
And every time you took a walk it brought you through my door
And you'd say, "Hey, hey, hey what's happening?"
And I'd say, "Hey, hey, hey, it's you."

Walking up the brilliant high street
Shopping for that special someone
What do I see?
She's looking at me
What do I see?
She's looking at me
And she'd say, "Hey, hey, hey what's happening?"
And I'd say, "Hey, hey, hey, it's you."
