Yeah, Yeah, Fascists Suck The World's Largest, Gnarliest Donkey Dicks But Still... Sometimes... I wish Woody's guitar didn't say anything about killing anyone ever I wish Johnny Cash flashed a peace sign instead of angry fingers And Sid and Siouxsie's swastikas were Mickey Mouse heads I hope foggy London Bridge never falls down and the football finally gets kicked by Charlie Brown and the Mods lie in the green grass with the Teds I wanna save that poor bat from Ozzy's madness and Ian Curtis from his world of sadness and get that Pogue to do a wicked twelve-step I wanna turn back time and heal Cher's heart and give Cindy Lauper Madonna's lead parts And save Pauline's baby from Johnny Rotten's bad breath In the swirling dust at the end of the world Will it ever really matter which flag is unfurled? and does Woody Guthrie regret his call for someone's death?

about

"I don't know, for like the zillionth time I saw a photo of some rocker giving the finger to the camera, emulating the famous Johnny Cash picture. And then I saw a picture of Ringo smiling and giving the peace sign. And then I saw a post by a songwriter I love lauding the Woody Guthrie slogan "This guitar kills fascists." But then I saw a picture of Pete Seeger's banjo that said, “This machine surrounds hatred and forces it to surrender.” And I remembered the squeamish excuses for Siouxie and Sid's Nazi symbols and it all boiled up in the riotous times we're in and I was like, "No more killing of ANYONE. No more "Fuck You's", no more sanctified hatred. Love is the answer, but love is hard. It means no violence. It means patience, ingenuity, humor, mercy and grace. The cold hard sneer of rock can be thrilling, but the unclenched fist reaching out is more so. Anyway, I wrote the poem last week and this morning I sang it with a few chords in one take. That's this," - Lach
