I was listening to The Replacements In the 'get high' shack in the back of my place. I was thinking about displacement and if I died What would fill my space Just for a moment, I disappeared Into the eternal thou I was doing whatever it took To be vibrating ecstatic now I was doing whatever it took To be vibrating ecstatic now I was driving to another distant gig Love left behind In a crowded room I was thinking about some things I did When a van lowered the boom Someone yell cut, someone change the scene Someone take my bow I was doing whatever it took To be vibrating ecstatic now I was doing whatever it took To be vibrating ecstatic now Well, I woke up in a local hospital bed With plastic tubes Running from my arms There were doctors sighing And mothers crying At the harm that I had done All for a dream, all for a dream To calm my fevered brow I was doing whatever it took To be vibrating ecstatic now I was doing whatever it took To be vibrating ecstatic now Now I’m sitting in a Scottish garden Cloudy skies swirling in my tea I’m conversing with a curious martin Who tells me of All the things I’ve yet to be It’s up to me, it’s up to me She sings from her lofty bow Stop doing and just let life be vibrating ecstatic now Stop doing and just let life be vibrating ecstatic now

about

"This song grew out of a concert I did at The Edinburgh Fringe with the highly talented Roy Møller, Paul Hullah and Martin Metcalfe. It was an evening of songs and poetry that I dubbed, "The Vibrating Ecstatic Now". I then ended up writing a song, using that title, the day before the gig and then taught it to the group at that night's rehearsal. The van lowering the boom in the second stanza refers to the car accident I had at the start of my last UK tour. As they say, at least I got a song out of it!" - Lach
