The Texas Medley

"I was invited to bring The Antihoot to the University of Texas sometime in the nineties. The Cactus Cafe held twelve weekly open mics, choosing two acts from each, leading up to my arrival. I was then to host the Antihoot and choose one act who would win a round trip ticket to play Sidewalk in NYC.
I opened the night with the off-the-cuff medley on this new single release. It was just weird and fun enough to break-up the tense atmosphere I had walked into. A packed room ready to sit and applaud politely but I wanted to Antifolk them up right from the start, get rowdy, free and alive. I guess it worked because it turned into a great night (There were no mics on the audience so you can't hear but they were all singing along) and I ended up choosing two acts, Ana Egge and Lee Barber, who went onto to have wonderful careers and are still at it today." - Lach
