The Place Where I Belong
Brought up in schools of ringing bells different kids in each class
I was taught that permanence is a thing which doesn’t last
Every forty minutes a clanging brought us to our feet
Rushing through hallways to get to our next seat
And it seems so long until I found the place where I belong
Then came the smoke and I finally relaxed
But the feeling faded til I lit another fast
Next thing I knew twenty years had fired past
And all that time my closest fiends were my papers, pipe and stash
And it seems so long until I found the place where I belong
Musicians were my gurus visiting me in dreams
Though I never met them they seemed so real to me
But these so-called rock stars were just clowns on corporate chains
Strippers and con men by any other names
And it seems so long until I found the place where I belong
But now a smile shines upon my life
Illuminating the crevices in which I used to hide
All the toys of anger bottled up inside my chest
Turn into ice melting with the warmth of her caress
And it seems so long until I found the place where I belong
