At the social ceremony The office Christmas party I fell into the other side of night The cleavages were drinking Rosé and cabernet I was thinking of taking flight There were birds in the room That no one shooed away Perhaps these crows were invisible But their droppings were fluorescent And it made me effervescent So I decided to see if I could pull I chatted up a tipsy owl Who ironically cried foul When I mentioned I kissed on instinct She said, “A form you must fill out!” And this form she did pull out Along with a quill and a 100 proof bottle of ink I got a little nervous After reading her terms of service I gave excuses and got up to go “But you haven’t made a move” She said, “I thought you were in the groove.” Puckering her lips and waiting for the blow She wanted to see my record contract Said it was an aphrodisiac Some say don’t look back in anger Some just say don’t look back Either way I heard a calling From outside where the snow was falling At the human aviary the biggest luminary was the man with the paunch and the bowl The feather weights were singing A song of Santa fleeing And it followed me out into the cold Down the wet streets of Edinburgh I shook and I shivered not at the damp but at the close call Of ending the evening In the nest of a grieving modern product of the tower’s recent fall
