Rise
Safe inside my palette of dreams
filled with the colors of love and death
I paint a world not as it seems
but as it draws its breath
Outlined by fears tall in their remembrance
Ensconced within this nest made strong
by magpie thieves of ingrained desire
I wonder at the bird-like song
of timbers on the funeral pyre
their sparks like hearts of insects dance
Rise
Rise
If all gloom exists with the abeyance of hope
and only the lost can be found
then let our travails turn into climbing rope
with tendrils made of sound
and melodies honed by curious chance
Thus armored and enamoured I alone
can climb up from the wishing well
and clamber o'er false words of stone
to where my fellow angels dwell
humbled yet transcendent
