Quarter To Hate

A Quarter To Hate
It’s the same in every head
Landscapes like shots of Mars
Headaches like a grainy war movie
And they say Mexico is closer than Frisco
The heathen’s are at the gate
And it’s a quarter to hate
And I am on the fire escape
It’s a constant hurt
No baby born into this time
Will live a life without it
And I wish I could press a button
That would make it all go away
But it’s a quarter to hate
And I believe it’s getting late
The birds are going crazy
They’re flying through the windows
And the dog’s are beginning to howl
And Jesus is pulling them in at the church
And they got nothing left but faith
It’s a quarter to hate
And they have all swallowed the bait
The sirens are blaring
My veins are going to burst
I’m so excited
I don’t know what to do first
The survivalists are putting on their masks
In the park there is a parade
It’s a quarter to hate
And everyone is going mad
The prophets are owners
Of a smug, “I told you so.”
And the TV news ratings are going through the roof
The presidents car is bullet proof
He had every reason to anticipate
At a quarter to hate
He was resigned to his fate
There’s an invisible anarchy
Pulsing beneath the highway
Trying not to think of death
Is getting harder and harder
When it’s a little too late
When it’s a quarter to hate
And I am on the fire escape
