Lach's Antihoot was the longest running, most successful open mike of all time. Starting in 1984 at Lach's illegal after-hours club on NYC's Lower East Side, it had it's longest run at The Sidewalk Cafe on Avenue A in NYC. Hundreds of artists were inspired by and played at The Antihoot over the years including such world famous names as Beck, Regina Spektor, Jeff Buckley, Lady Gaga, Lana Del Ray, John Taylor, Robin Hitchcock, Suzanne Vega, Chris Barron, John Popper, The Moldy Peaches and so many more. But just as amazing are all of the just as talented artists who never broke through to a mass audience but were cherished on the scene.

This album captures a moment in time (1996) at The Antihoot. It's like being there on a typical Monday night. Sadly, Sidewalk Cafe closed last month, but it's closing inspired this rerelease to help celebrate what a magical place it was.

So, kick back, close your eyes and welcome to the coolest club in the universe.

I have a kid who was a baby when the pandemic started and a toddler now. When he’s older and asks what the pandemic is like I’m gonna put this album on and pour myself a drink- this covers it all. Feels surreal to imagine ever having the privilege of going to see a Jeffrey Lewis show again but it’s top of my list when this crap is over. savanns
