Hearts or Better
Walking in Empty City, Friday morning 3am
Said I wasn’t gonna do it, but here I am again
Doing the Frankenstein waltz through the gaudy neon mist
Ticking time lines off unholy bucket lists
Through the window of a closed dive bar
Thought I saw a dead body on the floor
My eyes were playing tricks on me
Was just a cruddy mop and nothing more
I had to do a double take, electric jolts through every pore
When the ragged thing looked up at me and asked,
"Haven’t we met before?"
As I ran out the door
And to the sky I swore
When I go I’m going as an exquisite corpse
Won't leave any money, and I'll feel no remorse
May be forgotten, may not be missed
But I’ll have tasted god’s forbidden kiss
Gonna leave it all on the table
Reach for the sky and watch it fall
When playing hearts or better
You know I always bet it all
But the dealer had my number copied from the bathroom stall
Ans my head's through the ceiling and I’m up against the wall
Waiting for the final call
And I ran out the door
And to the sky I swore
When I go I’m going as an exquisite corpse
I won't leave any money, and I'll feel no remorse
I may be forgotten, I may not be missed
But at least I’ll have tasted god’s forbidden kiss
