Always Meet Your Heroes

Always meet your heroes approach them in the bar
Have them take you home and show you just how real they are
Laundry in the hallway, no paper in the loo
Good to see your heroes are as ridiculous as you
Always meet your heroes in the mornings looking pale
Yelling at the postman for bringing the wrong mail
Sinks full of dishes, coffee headaches kicking in
Desperate wishes for some stomach medicine
Always meet your heroes ask them questions to help you heal
All the risks you’ve never taken, all the emptiness you feel
Dig their mystic answers filled with defensiveness and fear
After all we’re just mirrors reflecting what others want to hear
Always meet your heroes be they old or be they young
Enter wide-eyed into their vaults of oblivion
Stand there like paupers seeking gold from the sun
And names worth the paper that they’re written on
Perhaps one will surprise you; a Bodhisattva in the night
Secret whispers of enlightenment giving thrills of rare delight
Before they exit laughing for the next stage in their life
Leaving you where you were; seeking answers from a light
