about

"I was sitting in my room and wondering what it would be like if I mentioned a color over and over in a song. Would the listener become more aware of the color in their own environment as well? I noticed a red and white pattern in my surroundings. The pack of Lucky Strikes, the can of Budweiser, a shirt on a chair. I wrote down 'red' and 'the color of the matador' followed right after that. That unplugged things and the song poured onto the page and my guitar, as they often do. Turned out to be a murder song. Many years later I wrote another murder tune, Waltz in Blue, using the color blue this time." - Lach

lyrics

Red and White

Red
The color of the matador
Red
The color of the dress she wore
Red

White
The color of the ghost that drifts
Through my life like a nurse
Made out of smoke
White

Red and white dots danced eidetically
As we made love electrically
Red, red, red and white

Red and white
There’s got to be a pattern somewhere
White her skin
And red the color of her hair
Red, red, red and white

Red and white
The color of the sacrificed lamb
Red and White
The color of her eyes at three a.m.

Red, red, red and white
