Poet Brain

I’m not your best friend
My mind tends to wander
You try to make dinner plans
I’m already a goner
Wondering if appointments
Drive illusions of time
And if by looking into your eyes
I’m really looking into mine
Standing in the rain / Standing in the rain
Soaking in my poet’s brain
I can’t be your amigo
Your best bud or your dude
Going to the rock show
I’m the guy who tends to brood
Between you and me though
I don’t mean to be rude
But you see the king clothed
While I see them fully nude
I’m in pain/ I’m in pain
I got a poet brain
Small talk feels like quicksand
Ancient lines from moldy scripts
Everyone was programmed
In a meeting that I missed
I wrote this in the second
It took for you to pucker for a kiss
While I tried hard to reckon
Which germs were on your lips
Forgot your name/ Forgot your name
I got a poet brain
I find solace in music
In poetry and art
In the works of scientists
Who upset the apple-carts
A famous psychiatrist
Once examined my heart
Then posited that I exist
But forgot how to play my part
To stay sane I went insane
Got me a poet brain
That’s me standing starkly
On the “all the world's’” stage
Through a glass darkly
Looking at a dog-eared page
A play that’s cast me in the part
Of an angel in a cage
Promoted as a devil
A fool labelled as a sage
Last refrain/Last refrain
Last call for the poet brain
Give me my hat, Pass me my cane
I got a poet brain
Life is art and I’ve been framed
I got a poet brain
You wrote the rules, I won the game
I got a poet brain
If you want the credit you gotta take the blame
I got a poet brain
I do it for love, you did it for fame
I got a poet brain
I’m the memory of Lover’s Lane
I got a poet brain
I’m glad I’m gone, You’re glad you came
Thanks to my poet brain
I always cut across the grain
I got a poet brain
Valentina Allegre De Fontaine
Turned on my poet brain
I’m Batman disguised as Bruce Wayne
Hanging in my poet brain
You like this song, I think it’s lame
Welcome to my poet brain
Standing in the rain/ Standing in the rain
Soaking in my poet’s brain
